Explosure

Explosure is an exhibition of photographic images exploring the vagaries of light through the use of multiple exposure, color, black and white, and positive/negative. The resulting works challenge the viewer’s perception of the image’s subject matter and medium. The exhibition presents black and white photographs offset by intense, colorful abstract multiple exposure images that echo painterly forms. “Our idea is to imagine what it is like to be up close and inside an event and visualize the light and energy more intimately. We photograph, dissect and reconfigure the scenes, then relaunch the sequence. With the combination of abstract and representational, we retain an essence of the original event but with a new painterly energy. “It is important to us to challenge the traditional understandings of photography and fine art and remove typical distinctions of what a photograph or painting is and allow the viewer to focus on the image without defining the medium.”
